Body of Evidence, Rachel Grant
And she thought facing a firing squad was bad…
When archaeologist Mara Garrett traveled to North Korea to retrieve the remains of GIs lost in combat, she never imagined she’d be arrested, convicted of spying, and sentenced to death. Her only hope is Curt Dominick, the powerful, ambitious, and infuriatingly sexy US attorney prosecuting her uncle, a former vice president of the United States.
What starts off as a rescue mission quickly morphs into a race across the Pacific. Someone is after Mara, and they’ll risk everything to stop her from reaching Washington DC. With betrayal around every corner, Curt and Mara have little reason to trust each other and every reason to deny the sparks between them that blaze hotter than the Hawaiian sun. Still, desire clashes with loyalty when they discover a conspiracy that threatens not only their lives but the national security of the United States.
Mara Garrett is not just any JPAC lead archeologist – she’s the niece of a former US Vice President which means she is generally kept from known unstable environments, but when something happens to the lead archeologist going to North Korea she is substituted and sent in. She is not aware that she was sent there by her ex-fiancé’s father intentionally to retrieve a piece of the crash site that would change the way the US interacts with Korea and maybe even set-off WWIII. Can Mara’s escort, the one and only Curt Dominick keep her safe? Will they reach DC before those chasing them eliminate them? Can they keep the fire between them dim before it causes them to implode? These questions and more are answered within the pages of this gripping novel.
Gripping. Suspenseful. On the Edge of Your Seat. Just some of the ways I would describe this book, from the moment I opened this wonderful piece of literature I knew it was different – like nothing I’ve read before. Being my first try at an espionage style book I was not entirely sure what I was in for, but I was pleasantly surprised. So much so I sacrificed sleep to finish this book, I just had to know what was going to happen next and see if Mara and Curt were going to be successful! The reader will be able to relate to the give and take; push and pull of Mara and Curt’s interactions and the hesitation each of them feels – personally I found myself wanting to knock their heads together and scream “Get out of your own head and just relish the quiet moments you have together.” I so wanted to tell them to throw caution to the wind – but I understand why the author did what she did!
Set aside a lot of time to read this book because you will want to know what happens and will keep this page-turner in hand! One that I highly recommended to readers of all genre’s! I just cannot WAIT for the next in the Evidence Series!
