Author Michael Bracken’s thoughts on a variety of topics that relate to “Ignite!”:

On erotic fiction specifically for moms:

“I don’t see that there’s a need for erotic fiction specifically for moms as much as there is a need for erotic fiction about moms. After all, mothers get turned on by as many different forms of erotica as non-mothers.

At the same time, I see little erotic fiction that acknowledges the myriad ways in which parenthood impacts the sex life of parents, and I think there should be erotica that reflects the reality of motherhood. The fun and games of adulthood don’t have to end just because there’re children in the house!”

On life balance (both sexually and otherwise, both for moms and everyone):

“I doubt that any of us can ever live a truly balanced life. The best we can hope for is to not let our lives get too far out of balance, and that we always try to bring it back into balance when we see one part of our lives begin to dominate the others.”

On the subtle or drastic differences between romance and erotica genres:

“At the extreme ends of the spectrum, romance is about an emotional connection between two characters and erotica is about a physical connection between two characters. Even so, the best stories of either genre blend the emotional and the physical—though each emphasizes one over the other, depending on the genre—so that readers experience the full range of ways in which two characters connect.”

On his writing in various genres:

“Of all the genres in which I write, erotica is the one most likely to have readers asking about my research methodology. When I write science fiction, no one asks if I’ve been to space. When I write crime fiction, no one asks if I’ve murdered people. But when I write erotica, readers want to know if I’ve done all the things I write about.

I’m not about to reveal what I have and haven’t done, but it’s safe to say that if I had done everything in my stories I would have worn out several research assistants and I’d be far too tired to write about it!”

My own review of “Ignite!”:

My thoughts on this treasure of erotic short stories is just WOW! I am speechless that is for sure, this book is a quick read, but definitely NOT something to be read at work.  Learned that lesson the hard way.  What I can say as a Mom is that I can definitely relate to each woman in this novel – from the busy single Mom’s to the Married Mom’s who are craving something a little different than the normal routine with their husbands to the late in life Mom who has survived breast cancer and is now questioning her attractiveness – unsure of her body and self-esteem suffering as a result.  I think each and every woman in fact, married, single, or otherwise can relate in some manner – we all have body image issues – we all have confidence issues – and we all get bored in our lives.  This collection of stories allows us to step outside of those norms and indulge in that fantasy!

This is Definitely something I will be recommending to anyone and everyone who loves Erotic Fiction!

  1. You’re absolutely correct, Jacqueline. Romance often involves multiple emotional connections as well. Exploring all the variations is what makes writing both of these genres (and the blending of these genres) so rewarding.

Thank you, ncreadergirl, for your kind comments about the anthology.
